As a result of the 2005 BRAC initiative to create more efficiency of efforts, the Army’s Fort Myer and the Marines’ Henderson Hall will become the first Joint Base in the Department of Defense.

Based here are: The First and Fourth battalions of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, (The Old Guard) — except for 'A' Company and the Headquarters Command Battalion.

Headquarters Command Battalion is the premier headquarters command Battalion in the Army. The battalion ensures soldier readiness and provides logistical and personnel Support in order to conduct law enforcement, contingency, ceremonial, information management and customer support operations in support for more than 6,000 Soldiers and more than 114,000 family members, retirees and veterans within the National Capital
Region.

The present command consists of two companies (Headquarters Company, United States Army; Headquarters Company, United States Army Garrison) along with the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall's Military Personnel Division and Casualty Area Command.
